It all begins with an idea…
We formed Jam Jar as a team of actors keen to develop our own work and evolve into more versatile ‘theatre-makers’, by plucking other creative strings we had to our bows across producing, directing, writing and composing. It became clear that children’s theatre was a shared passion, but that these little stories could be extended to address the bigger picture.
Without wishing to patronise or preach, we aim to create professional theatre for those who may be experiencing live performance for the first time, and tell stories to small people with big hearts. While we hope to always provide family fun and toe-tapping tunes, we also represent shared feelings or challenges onstage, aware this can be a powerful conduit for understanding, reassurance and change. With flagship productions tackling current ecological crises, we hope to educate young, innovative audiences by making memorable, optimistic stories to illustrate the subject-matter, inspiring the generation inheriting a world with a necessity for imagination.
Above all, we aim to make trips to professional theatre accessible to all - including if that means we flip the script and come to you - considering it important that the adults are also jumping at the chance to bring the kids!
Since establishing Jam Jar in 2023, we are incredibly proud to have secured funding from Arts Council England to support the development of 3 projects, completing 3 UK tours, a successful stint at Edinburgh Fringe, touring to Poland and Cambridge, and reaching hundreds of young audience members across theatres, schools and community venues.
Our work has recently expanded into providing workshops in schools, which allows the company to create opportunities to explore theatre-making and the breadth of littler-known creative careers.
We hope to meet you soon, whether that be under the sea…inside an igloo…or at a gig in the woods!
