It all begins with an idea…
Jam Jar was formed by a team of creatives keen to develop as theatre-makers after drama school, and the other strings they had to their bows - across producing, directing, writing and composing. It became clear that children’s theatre was a shared passion, but that this could also be extended to address the bigger picture. Without wishing to patronise or preach, they aim to educate young, innovative audiences on current ecological crises, by making memorable, optimistic stories to illustrate the subject-matter.
Above all, they aim to make trips to professional theatre accessible to all, and consider it important that the adults are also jumping at the chance to bring the kids!
Their work has expanded into providing workshops in schools, which allows the company to create opportunities to explore theatre-making and puppetry alongside relatable stories, tales of hope and conservation efforts, for the generation who are inheriting these global issues.
Since establishing Jam Jar in 2023, the team have secured funding from Arts Council England to support the development of 3 projects, completing 3 UK tours, a successful stint at Edinburgh Fringe, touring to Poland and Cambridge, and reaching hundreds of young audience members across theatres, schools and community venues.
